Trying Something New- Oak Meadow

So, I told you I am “flipping my homeschool” and trying to change things a little around here. We are in the middle of a major overhaul, and I am really excited to tell you that the biggest change is that Bug is going to try out Oak Meadow’s complete curriculum with a review for this awesome company.

Oak Meadow has been on my radar for a long time. They have full programs for everything, Pre-K to high school. I’m still waiting on my order to get here, but I am so excited for it. From what I’ve seen of the samples and looking at my friends materials, I think it will be a really great fit for my family at this point in time. I don’t normally share about products while I am waiting for them to arrive, but I’ve also never had something this *big* and exciting headed my way before. Man, the wait is the worst!

One of the things that I am really excited about is the layout of the materials. I think this program is going to save me time and ease my load a little bit. I’ve been spending so much time planning and trying to figure out how to cover everything I need to, and also fit it into the day and school year. The syllabus is laid out by weekly “lessons” that give a clear checklist of what I need to get done during the week. This means I can do as much or as little as I need to on any given day, and know exactly where we stand for the week. I think I am really going to like knowing everything we need to learn in a year is covered without me having to put every little piece together.

The program itself seems to be exactly what I am looking for in terms of following Bug’s developmental readiness as well as his needs to be challenged. Oak Meadow talks about educating the whole child, and not only encouraging them to think, but to also embrace their creative and imaginative natural inclinations. I want a creative curriculum. I want FUN, hands on stuff! And, I want it all laid out for me.

This is the Third Grade overview, which is the level I choose for Bug. I’m loving that it includes everything, even cursive, art and music.

Looks fun, right? Everything I need to cover is there!

I haven’t seen it in person yet, but am really excited for the change. I’m hoping it gets here this week and that it’s everything I am hoping it will be! (YAY, Box Day!). Once I see it, I have to decide if I want to get a level for Mr. Man also. I can’t decide! Luckily, there is a sale on right now, where you can save 20 percent off anything until May 31. The Kindergarten package follows science by the seasons, exactly how we have been with our Nature Studies, so it’s really, really tempting.

I can’t wait!

  1. We tried OM’s grade 4 this year and loved it! We have now ordered the complete grade 5 curriculum with grade 6 math. I would say the math was the only thing I was not so sure about. I used the math for grade 4 solely as a supplement……huge Saxon fan!
