Simplified Dinners Meal Planning {Review and Giveaway!}

FTCdisclosure

In my home, Hubby is the main chef. He went to culinary school (he’d pipe in here that it was only a semester) and is an amazing cook. He can make a meal out of any strange combination of foods I throw at him.

My wonderful Hubby has gone back to school though, and is working like mad on his bachelor’s degree. While I am proud of him, I am less than thrilled because while he is still the main chef, some days I need to step up. When I do, there is often little time for me to prep and plan a dinner, which is why I am thrilled to have Simplified Dinners to help me figure out what to feed the family.

What is Simplified Dinners?

Simplified Dinners is more than a cookbook. Do you have a recipe in your head that is your go-to for easy dinners? Mine is shredded Mexican chicken in various forms. I always seem to have chicken and the needed seasonings, and I can make about 10 different meals around this ONE main dish. I can make chicken enchiladas, tacos, chicken and rice and SO much more because I have this one recipe in my head, and all the ingredients in my pantry.

Simplified Dinners is based around this idea- you can stock your pantry with the same list of ingredients each week, and have a whole arsenal of recipes that are simple, delicious, and all originate from that one list of pantry items.

In the book, you’ll find a master pantry list that will tell you what to have on hand to create ANY of the recipes in the book. Then, you’ll find different categories for each item. For example, there is a page for stove top chicken. There is one basic “process”: a how-to cook the dish. Then, below you’ll find 4 variations of that recipe where you add different touches to make a completely different meal. You learn one recipe, and master 4 different dishes.

This layout is repeated for all the main dishes- roasts, crock pot meals, pastas, soups and so on. One recipe, many variations. The book also has side dish ideas, so this one book, and one pantry list is everything you need to feed your family a tasty variety of meals.

Our Thoughts

I kind of love this book. In my home, I am not cooking every night. It fits my situation of needing to find something simple and quick to cook out of what I have in my cupboards. I put the master pantry list on my fridge, and when I am making a weekly shopping list, I look it over to see if there is anything I need to add to keep my pantry well stocked.

When Hubby tells me now that I am in charge of dinner tonight, all I need to do is open the freezer, see that I still have chicken, and know that Simplified Dinners has a meal I can cook with it. It has taken that panic moment out of meal planning. I don’t have to wonder what is for dinner or run to the store because everything I need is already in my pantry.

I think this program would work well for most families. The meals are all simple and easy to cook with real, whole food ingredients. My husband prefers fancier meals fit for a 5 star restaurant (which tend to take a couple hours to prepare) but he can make those when it’s his turn to cook. I prefer simple meals I can cook without a hassle, and Simplified Dinners gives me an easy way to feed my family!

In a Nutshell

Simplified Dinners is an eBook that will provide you with a pantry list, meal ideas, recipes, and planning sheets to make feeding your family a delicious meal a snap. You don’t need to worry about what to cook anymore, because with one core list of ingredients, you will always have a variety of meals to choose from. I think this is a fantastic resource for just about everyone, but especially mothers who are new to menu planning, college students, and any other overwhelmed person in the need of an easy meal plan FAST!

Simplified Pantry also has a gluten free, dairy free edition for families with special dietary needs. To get an idea of the great ideas in Simplified Dinners, head on over to the Simple Pantry Cooking Blog.

  1. The flat bread on the grill sounds so good! The homemade syrup caught my eye also. We are trying to cut out all high fructose corn syrup and that would be one less thing to worry about 🙂

  2. Frozen Broccoli made tasty! It’s a staple in our home as well, and, while we all like it the way I make it, I could really use a “change-it-up” recipe!

  3. There were several recipes that looked good, but I think I’d like to try making the simple granola first, as we also like granola in the summertime but the recipes that I’ve seen before have always felt a bit too daunting to me. Thanks for linking up with Simple Pantry Cooking, and for the chance to win! 🙂
