I don’t think anyone ever said blogging was supposed to be easy – but it’s a lot easier to keep it up and running when the going gets tough when you have the right tools.
Okay, so you probably don’t actually want to quit blogging, but sometimes life is just hard. When you are trying to build a business from the ground up, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and wonder why you are spending so much time spinning your wheels.
I’ve been running this website since 2011, and in that time I have had a baby, moved five times, recovered from three major surgeries, got a masters degree, raised four kids, and worked full time. My website hasn’t always been the top priority (although it probably should have ranked higher) but it’s also something I am deeply attached to and proud of.
There is one tool I swear by that has helped me keep my website running no matter what life throws at me: CoSchedule.
What is CoSchedule?
CoSchedule is a tool that helps you manage your WordPress website, social media and email promotion all in one place. You connect it to your WordPress, and then as you write your blog post, you can schedule social media content easily and automate future posts, and then see all of the analytics so you know exactly what resonates with your audience.
How does CoSchedule Work?
I’ve been using CoSchedule since it was in beta (so, for years) and yet I am constantly learning of new features and finding new ways to use the program.
When I am overwhelmed, CoSchedule helps me see at a glance what my plan is, and what I have to do to execute the plan. Having everything together in one place puts my mind at ease.
At it’s most basic, I use CoSchedule to plan out my content. Each month, I add in drafts of the posts I hope to write. I add in any information I may have for promotions, and block out when my newsletters will send.
In the above screenshot, you can see how CoSchedule keeps a list of your drafts all in one place. If you are ever stumped for content, you can look and see the posts you have started and not finished, and get back on track easily.
I can add to-do lists for each post so I can easily keep track of what I need to do and keep track of my progress. I include everything from “purchase supplies” to “schedule social media promotion” to these lists so I can stay on track.
As I write blog posts, I can immediately schedule social media promotion for every channel. It’s easy to bulk schedule and create multiple posts to share over the course of the month.
I love that I don’t have to log into any other website to get this job done. Everything can be done within CoSchedule – that way I won’t forget any important steps.
In the above screenshot you can see how you can easily put together social media content. You can schedule posts for the same time as you publish, for a week later, two weeks later, a month later, or on a custom date. You can also add these posts to your Re-Queue and automate your evergreen social content.
CoSchedule keeps my website running, even when I can’t give it my full attention.
One of my favorite features of CoSchedule is the ability to “re-queue” social media posts. Any evergreen post can be categorized and then scheduled to share on a loop. This way, all of my printable and other content is constantly being shared to new blog readers and social media followers.
When life becomes totally overwhelming, CoSchedule keeps my content fresh and in front of my readers. It’s like having a personal assistant.
In the above screenshot, you’ll see all of my social media and blog posts for the last week. I didn’t put many new things together at all because we are on vacation and no one has time for new content! You’ll see all the green social media posts are Re-Queue posts – things I have shared in the past and have preformed well. CoSchedule re-shares these posts at ideal times so they can continue working for me long after I curated and posted the original content.
The longer I use CoSchedule, the better it becomes because I have even more content to add to the social media queue. Even when I have needed to take a month or two “off” CoSchedule continues to share my content and the calendar is there waiting for me when I come back.
With everything on my plate, it’s helpful to have a program that keeps track of everything I have to do and makes automating easy. CoSchedule is a project management system, a marketing system, and so much more.
If you have a team working on your website, you can have your team members log in, assign tasks to them, and make sure everyone is on the same page. It makes working together on content a breeze.
