I have always loved Yahtzee. Growing up, we used to bring the game with us every time we went camping, and I’d play the whole weekend as long as I had someone to play with. Unfortunately, dice and the outdoors don’t really go well together. You can imagine how excited I was when UncommonGoods contacted me with an offer to send me any goodie from their Mother’s Day Collection as a gift. I immediately fell in love with their yard dice set and started daydreaming about all the fun my family could have with me to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The first thing we did was draw out a gameboard in sidewalk chalk on our back patio. Our backyard is probably the one thing about our new home that makes me cringe the worst. It has so much potential but is basically nothing more than weeds and dirt and bricks… and the coolest treehouse ever. We really need to get outside and enjoy it more as a family!

Once the board was drawn out, we were ready to play! The UncommonGoods wooden yard dice are huge, but not terribly heavy. We decided the best way to play would be kids vs. adults, so the three big kids could roll together as a team.

We had them roll and then Hubby and I helped them decide what they were going to count their roll for. There is a bit of strategy in Yahtzee…. and I swear I encouraged them to make smart decision when totalling up their score… most of the time. Then they rolled a small and large straight back to back and I stopped feeling so generous.

I’m super competitive. But, I suppose being a nice mom is important too! The kids totally whooped us by the end of the game! I am so glad spring is here and we can finally find some time to be outside and play games as a family.  These yard dice were the perfect gift for me, and I can’t wait to play more dice games with the kids (and bring them out for summer barbecues!) while the weather is nice.
